Very sorry to learn of John's passing. I was hired by him for my first job at age 15 at the Uncle John's Pancake House in Bloomington and I admired him very much. Very good leader he was.

John managed our ladies' Sewer Queen softball team for a number of years back in the '70s-80s. He was always cordial with the gals in his coaching. It was a joy to have him with us. I too enjoyed his deep voice on the radio and quick sense of humor. Great guy!

So sorry for your loss - John did my mom's obituary on the radio and I had taped it and listened to it again last night - he did have a great voice and he was a great person - he also told one of the funniest jokes on his noon time news years back - will never forget it.

I worked as a waitress for John at Bloomington Uncle John's restaurant. I was a teenager so John was one of my first work managers; what a kind man! The memories of John and the weekly visits of Casey Jones to the restaurant are still topics of discussion when the old gang gathers today. I married Mark Campbell who worked at Mann France Ave Drive In at the same time period. He recalls John's deep voice and kindness toward him when he and others would take their breaks at UJ's. So many kind and fun memories. We are sorry for your loss.

Wendy Johnson

My sympathy any prayers goes out to Deb and the rest of the family. John was a friend to all and always had a smile on his face. I loved to listen to him on the radio and occasionally would run into him downtown. Deb, I just want you to know that whenever he talked about you or his 2 grandsons, his eyes would light up. He was so very proud of you and those boys. God's grace to you all.
