Hazel D. Biskey, age 94 of Aitkin formerly of Swatara, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Golden Horizons Assisted Living in Aitkin. Hazel was born November 6, 1914 at Swatara, Minnesota the daughter of Frank and Effie (Davis) Trepanier. She attended schools in the area and graduated from the Aitkin High School in 1932. She married John Truman Biskey on September 8, 1934 at Hill City. The lived and farmed in the Swatara area. She had served as president of the PTA for a number of years, was a member of St. James Catholic Church at Swatara and then St. Johns Catholic Church in Hill City. She had served as secretary and treasurer of the CCW in Swatara for many years. For 26 years she served as the secretary-treasurer for the Macville Cemetery. She also helped as caretaker of the cemetery along with her husband Truman. She was a member of the Moose Willow Sportsman???s Club and she was always active in the church and community activities. She enjoyed baking, sewing and canning. She is survived by 2 daughters and sons in law: Darlene and Ed Landrus of Coon Rapids, Mn.; Beverly and Tom Smith of Hill City, Mn.; daughter in law: Dorothy Biskey of Swatara; 17 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Truman, son Richard, and sisters: Viola Stansberry, Myrtle Jewett, brothers: Bill, George and Harvey Trepanier. A memorial mass will be held Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Justin Fish officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Eugene Leo Paulsen

Eugene Leo Paulsen, age 75 of Rochester, Mn. formerly of Aitkin passed away Friday, August 14, 209 at St. Mary???s Hospital in Rochester. Gene was born November 12, 1933 in Aitkin the son of Paul and Kate Paulsen. He grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School. He then served in the U.S. Army. He then attended graduated from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. He worked tirelessly for 40 years as the Co-Owner of Gravelle Plumbing and Heating Company in Aitkin as a master plumber. Gene was a member of the Korean War Vets Club and the American Legion in Rochester, MN. He is survived by his wife Laraine of Rochester; daughter and son in law: Kari and Dusty Cartie of Aitkin; Stepsons: Eugene and Janice Watson of Ellicot City, Maryland; Paul Watson of Farmington, Mn.; Dennis and Tracy Watson of Farmington, Mn; seven grandchildren; 1 sister and brother in law: Eileen and George Deering of McGregor; 1 brother in law: Albert Christensen of Aitkin. He was preceded in death by his Parents, first wife Muriel; sister: Marian Christensen, and Brother James. A celebration of Life Mass will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 7 PM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr., Justin Fish officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be at the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Blanche L. Elf

Blanche L. Elf, age 92 of McGregor died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. Blanche was born July 8, 1917 at McGregor, Minnesota the daughter of Orrin and Alma (Nordell) Williamson. She grew up and attended schools in the McGregor area and graduated from the McGregor High School. She then attended two years of college in Minneapolis. While attended college she worked as a nanny for a family in Minneapolis. She married Knute H. Elf on August 8, 1942 at Braham, Minnesota. They lived in the Twin Cities. She went to work at Honeywell as a secretary in 1959 and worked there until 1974 at which time she and her husband retired to the McGregor area. She has lived here since. She was a very active member of the McGregor Friends of the Library and the McGregor United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and scrap booking. She loved to read and play scrabble. She is survived by son: Roger Elf of McGregor; daughter and son in law: Sandra and Don Wamsley of Walden, Colorado; 5 grandchildren: Tammy Maginnis, Bob Wamsley, Brandy Elf, Christina Elf, Marin Wamsley; 2 great grandchildren: Liam Maginnis, Daenen Jones; and 1 sister: Helen Sobiech of Mission, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Knute in 1989, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM from the McGregor United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Christensen officiating. Betty Lou Dahl-Schumann

Betty Lou Dahl-Schumann, age 54 of Aitkin formerly of International Falls, Eagan and Andover, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Falls Memorial Hospital in International Falls, Minnesota. She was born September 24, 1954 in International Falls, Mn. the daughter of Robert and Laurel (Stumbo) Dahl. She grew up and attended schools in International Falls graduating from the High School there. She attended the Bemidji State University from 1988 to 1992 and received a degree in Theater Arts. She then moved to Eagan, Mn. She married Matthew K. Schumann on September 10, 1994 at Andover, Mn. She lived in Andover from 1994 to 1999 at which time they moved to Aitkin and they have lived here since. She worked in Aitkin doing Adult Foster Care and she also had worked as an artist. She enjoyed painting, landscaping and working in flowers gardens. She enjoyed any outdoor activity. She is survived by her husband Matt Schumann of Aitkin; 2 daughters and spouses: Katie and Jeff Lehrke of St. Paul, Mn.; Kathie and Ed Karsnia of Anoka, MN.; 2 grandchildren: Joey Hower and Sami Kate Karsnia; Mother: Laurel Dahl of International Falls, Mn.; 2 sisters: Jennifer Christiansen of Eagan, Mn.; Julie Chabot of Ft. Francis, Ontario; 1 brother: Rick Dahl of International Falls, Mn. She was preceded in death by her father Robert and 1 son Tom Hanson in 2002. Rita Y.(Iaquinto) Stifter, age 71 of Aitkin formerly of McGregor and Minneapolis, died Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. Rita was born December 31, 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of John and Margaret (Nelson) Iaquinto. She grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis attended Patrick Henry High School and then the Minneapolis Vocational School. She married Willard John Stifter on February 19, 1955 in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis for 13 years and then moved to Aitkin in 1969. She worked at various restaurants and supper clubs in the Aitkin and McGregor area. They moved to McGregor and lived there for a time before moving back to Aitkin in 1992. She was an avid quilter and needle pointer. She is survived by her husband Willard Stifter of Aitkin; Children and spouses: Wendy Carlstrom of Blaine, Mn.; Delores and Alvin Wiita of Anchorage, Alaska; John and Korrine Stifter of Watertown, Mn.; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Ray Iaquinto of Isle, Mn.; Robert Iaquinto of Minneapolis, Mn. In 1990 Deborah was united in marriage to Bob Larkowski in Long Lake. She enjoyed flowers, bird watching, and loved her cats. Vivian A. Colstad age 95 of McGrath formerly of the Twin Cities died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at her home in McGrath, Mn. Vivian was born December 26, 1913 at Becker, Minnesota the daughter of Jacob and Jennie (Moore) Clitty. She grew up and attended schools in Backer. She then attended Beauty School and opened her own salon in Minneapolis. She married Ronald L. Colstad in 1936 in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until 1961 when they moved to Florida. They returned to Minneapolis in 1964 and lived in the area until 1987. Her husband died in 1987 and she moved back to Florida and lived there until 2003 when she moved back to St. Anthony Village. She moved to McGrath, Mn. in 2005 and had lived there since. She had worked for the city of Minneapolis in Law Enforcement as a detective. She also owned a number of consulting businesses and worked as a safety consultant for many businesses. She had served as a director for the Crippled Child Relief Organization and she enjoyed fishing. She is survived by 2 sons and daughters in law: James and Catherine Colstad of McGrath, Mn.; Lee and Joanne Colstad of Lakeland, Florida; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Phyllis Huskey of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Grace Johnson of Becker, Mn. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Terrance L. Overstad, age 58 of Aitkin formerly of Mora and Redfield, South Dakota died Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin, Mn. Terrance was born October 6, 1950 at Starbuck, Minnesota the son of Homer and Mary (Tobin) Overstad. He moved at an early age with his family to Blaine, Minnesota where he grew up and attended schools. He married Mardene Ragels on May 3, 1974 at Gettysburg, South Dakota. They made their home in Mora, Mn where he owned and operated his own meat cutting business. He also lived in Redfield, South Dakota for a time before moving to Aitkin in 1987 where he worked as a meat cutter and meat department manager for the Thriftway Grocery Store. He then moved to Wyoming and had just recently returned to Aitkin. He was an artist and enjoyed painting. He was an excellent cook and loved motorcycling and having coffee at the local coffee shops each day. He is survived by 3 daughters and sons in law: Cindi and Greg Hills of Aitkin; Terra and Bruce Wilcox of Aitkin; Brandee and Kevin Siebrecht of Redfield, South Dakota; 8 grandchildren: Kaylin, Brandon, Cole, Hunter, Isabel, Tanner, Lexi and Madyson; and 3 brothers??? Jerry Overstad of Stillwater, Mn.; Ronnie Overstad of Pine City, Mn.; Donnie Overstad of Mora, Mn. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Mary Overstad and 2 brothers: Richard and William Overstad. Jason was born January 28, 1973 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of John and Dorothy Skinaway Antel. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis. He then worked construction for many years. He moved to the McGregor area in 2000 and has lived here since. He was a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. He is survived by 2 daughters: Briana (Lala) Friend of McGregor; Kelly Friend of Onamia; son: Jason Friend of McGregor; Fianc??: Tara Kangas of McGregor; Brothers: Troy Dean Friend, Thomas Chadwick Friend, Marlin Stanley, Scott Friend, Sean Friend, Brandon Lee Stanley and sister Jessica Friend all of Minneapolis. Richard W. Gruhlke, age 92 of Palisade died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Richard was born June 6, 1917 at Chatfield, Minnesota the son of William and Christine (Stickford) Gruhlke. He attended schools in Dover, Minnesota. He moved with his family to the Kimberly-Rossburg area at the age of 16. He worked for Ziske???s Resort for a time and then worked for the Hoffman Turkey Farm for five years. He married Ruby E. Johnson on June 27, 1940 at Kimberly. In 1943 they purchased a farm in the Palisade area and raised turkeys and dairy farmed until 1979 when he retired. Richard also drove School Bus for the Aitkin School District from 1965 to 1987 when he turned 70. His wife Ruby died in 1994. He married Naomi Siers on May 25, 1996 at the Pine Lake Chapel near Aitkin. He was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church and had served on the church board, the Palisade Coop Creamery and Palisade Coop Oil, had served on the Waukenabo Township Board for many years and had served as a board member of the FHA. He enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings, driving his tractor and also sightseeing. He loved his family very much and thoroughly enjoyed the family gatherings. He is survived by his wife Naomi of Aitkin; sons and daughters in law: LeRoy and Carol Gruhlke of Cohasset, Mn.; Gordon and Sandy Gruhlke of Palisade, Mn.; Roger and Bev Gruhlke of Burnsville, Mn.; Tom and Cindy Gruhlke of Dassel, Mn.; Ray and Cheryl Gruhlke of Oakdale, Mn.; daughters and sons in law: Donna and Ken Siebert of Virginia, Mn.; Sue and Dale Anderson of Grand Rapids, Mn.; Daughter in law: Ellen Gruhlke of Aitkin, brother: and sister in law: John and Lorena Gruhlke of Visalia, Calf.; sisters and brothers in law: Estiline Moe of Anchorage, Alaska; Catherine and Ralph LaMoria of Bullhead City, Arz.; Janette and Clayton Fultz of Sierra Vista, Arz.; 19 Grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; step children: Kathleen Carpenter of North Branch, Mn.; Randall Siers of Lake George, Mn.; Kenneth Siers of Helena, Montana; Sharon Pults of Forest Lake, Mn.; Linda Nelson of Lindstrom, Mn. and numerous nieces and nephews. Toini M. Berglund, age 93 of Aitkin died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Toini was born January 29, 1916 at Aitkin, Minnesota the daughter of Jacob and Sandra Nikko. She grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School. She then worked in Duluth for a time before coming back to Aitkin where she married Sidney O. Berglund on September 26, 1941. While Sidney served in the U.S. Army during WW II, Toini lived and worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon Sidney???s discharge they returned to Minnesota and lived in St., Cloud for a time and then returned to Aitkin where they operated a farm for many decades. Toini had worked as a waitress over the years; she also worked at Butlers and the Aitkin Coffee Shop. She had also worked for the Aitkin IGA Store and Paulbeck???s Grocery Store. She moved to Maryhill Manor in the mid 1990???s. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin and had served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Ladies Aid Groups. She was also a 4H leader for the Twin Oaks Group. She had a passion for knitting, crocheting and embroidering. Toini also enjoyed gardening. She is survived by son and daughter in law: Sidney and Cathy Berglund of Round Rock, Texas; daughter and son in law: Sandy and Paul Groneberg of Hoffman, Mn.; 5 grandchildren: John (Michelle) Berglund of Montrose, MN.; Becky Berglund of Rochester, Mn.; Nathan (Rita) Groneberg of Hugo, Mn.; Michael (Jaclyn) Groneberg of Minneapolis, Mn.; Amy Groneberg of Bloomington, Mn.; 2 great grandchildren: Ellia Groneberg and Owen Groneberg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Sidney in 1990, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Henry A. Fageroos, 83 of Aitkin died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 16, 1926 in Crosby to Henry V. and Louise (Gabrio) Fageroos. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WW II. He fought in seven major Pacific Theater Battles. On February 27, 1950 in Aitkin Henry was united in marriage to Alice Way. In the past he worked in the evening at Fred???s Cafe as a janitor to help support his family. He was employed at Lampert Lumber in Crosby for 43 years and then for Lakes States Lumber in Aitkin. He was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86, Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post #1727, and St. John???s Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Bea??? Jacobsen, 91 of Aitkin died Monday, July 20, 2009 at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born July 13, 1918 in Shakopee to John and Laura (Unze) Clemens. On October 28, 1939 in Minneapolis Bea was united in marriage to Theodore Jacobsen. She worked for Honeywell for 21 years. They moved from Minneapolis to rural Aitkin in 1972. She started volunteering with the Riverwood Healthcare Auxiliary in 1974 and recently reached 3,000 hours of volunteer service. She watched the auxiliary grow from a dozen members to over 100 and served on many committees and as president twice. Riverwood CEO Mike Hagen said ???Bea Exemplifies the meaning of volunteerism.??? She was also an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Riverboat Lions Club, and the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Bea is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law: Ted Jacobsen of Aitkin Thomas (Mary) Jacobsen of Chaska Grandchildren: Teddy, Brian, Christine, Kari, Melissa, Courtney Great-grandchildren: Taylor, Connor, Jason, Kailey, Sophia, Harley, Wyatt, McKenna One brother and sister-in-law: Don (Patricia) Clemens of Shakopee And other relatives and friends. James A. Franklin Sr., age 59 of Palisade formerly of St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights, Mn. died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at his home near Palisade surrounded by his loving family. James was born January 29, 1950 at St. Paul, Minnesota the son of William H. and Clara M. (Kalischko) Franklin. He grew up and attended schools in St. Paul graduating from Humboldt High School. He married Barbara Jean Kern on September 28, 1968 in St. Paul. They lived in Inver Grove Heights where they raised their family and he worked for West Publishing, Menard???s and the Wilder Foundation. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator for a number of years. He had been coming to the Waukenabo Lake area since the mid 1980???s and he and his wife moved here in 2000. He has lived here since. He was a member of the Minnesota Federation of Square Dancers and the Palisade First Responders. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. On June 1, 1945 in Aitkin, Elinor was united in marriage to Dave Zilverberg. She was a homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. Sparky was born March 14, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Walter E. and Helen Ann (Hodgson) Doelz. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis graduating from Marshall High School. He worked as a truck driver in the trucking industry for about 30 years. He lived and raised his family in Mounds View. Upon his retirement in the mid 1980???s, he moved to McGregor and has lived here since. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Kingman, Arizona; was a Shriner, and had served as a Civil Defense Warden. He had been as Ham Radio Buff. He is survived by special friend: Carol Gilgenbach of McGregor; sons: Michael Doelz of San Francisco, Calf.; Patrick Doelz and Fianc?? Mavis K. McGuire, 68 of Aitkin died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born November 21, 1940 in Stillwater to Walter and Donelda (Rubow) LaRoche. She graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 1958 and then the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. On September 28, 1963 Mavis was united in marriage to Donald ???Mike??? McGuire at St. Andrews Church in Mahtomedi. They owned and operated Whitewood Resort on Spirit Lake since 1971. She was employed as Aitkin County???s first Home Extension Agent. She drove bus for Aitkin Schools for 25 years, she owned Whitewood Square Dance Boutique, she was President of the Cuyuna Rock, Gem, & Mineral Club, a member of the Riverboat Reelers, she was board chair for Aitkin County H.R.A., an active member of First Lutheran Church, she designed costumes for Aitkin High School musicals and plays, and was a 4-H judge for county fairs. She enjoyed sewing, collecting nut crackers, and square dancing. Mavis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Todd (Charmayne) of Pulaski, WI. She was an Aitkin County Senior Volunteer, was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook, and enjoyed hooking rugs, reading, sewing and golfing. She had served as president of the Wayzata Women???s Club and vice president of the Wayzata Women???s Auxiliary. She married Conrad A. Lueck on April 6, 1986 at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook. George ''Buddy'' Roderick George ''Buddy'' E. Roderick, 77, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. He had been suffering from Alzheimer???s for 11 years. He was born November 3, 1931 in International Falls to parents Sherman and Mildred (Nelson) Roderick. He went to school in International Falls and then worked at Ontario Mando Paper Mill until he joined the Air Force in 1951. He served in Korea as a cook and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was discharged in 1955 and returned to International Falls and continued to work at the mill. He then married and moved to Virginia, Mn where he worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. From there he moved to Leadville, Colorado and worked in the mine. He then moved to Everett, WA. and worked for Nord Door Co., returning from there in 1967 to Minneapolis where he went to work for Superior Plating. From there he worked as a pressman for B.F. Nelson Folding Carton Company until he retired in 1993 and moved to McGregor, Mn. He was a lifetime Member of the VFW in International Falls. He belonged to Gopher 2 Pup tent of the Cooties. He was a member of Round Lake Presbyterian church where he served as a session member. He loved music, hunting, fishing, gardening, taking movies, children and the Vikings. He is survived by his wife, Kathryne. Daughters: Roxanne (David) Aitkin, Loretta Hallquist, Kathleen (James) Hennessey, Teresa Christie. Grandchildren: Alexander (Melinda) Aitkin, Amanda (Charles) Ennen, Amber (Daniel) Mevissen, Anthony Hallquist, Jeremy (Cathy) Gillis, Justin (Stephanie) Vick, Toni (Gene) Borrell, Angie (Gary) Vetsch, Angela (Dana) Tompkins, and Erica Christie. Ruth Margarette (Teare) Loftus, age 84 of McGregor died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Northland Assisted Living Center in McGregor. Ruth was born July 10, 1924 in Hastings, Minnesota the daughter of Lynn and Gretchen (Harms) Teare. She lived attended grade school at Gaylord, Minnesota with her grandparents Ernest and Anna Harms. She then attended Marshal High School in St Paul from which she graduated and then attended Rasmusson???s Business College. She worked as a secretary for a fur company in St. Paul where she also did modeling of their products. She then worked as a secretary for Fairbanks Morse Pump Co. in St. Paul until 1954 when she became a stay at home mom. She married Arnold Loftus on September 21, 1951 in St. Paul. In 1964 she went back to work as a secretary at Univac in Roseville and then joined Comten in Roseville (an offspring of Univac) until her retirement in 1978. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to McGregor and she has lived here since. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of McGregor, a charter member of the Big Sandy Lake Association, charter member of the AARP chapter in McGregor, member of the McGregor Lioness/Lions since 1981 and was a member of the Pine Needles and Pens Writing Group. In 2006, she wrote and published a book titles ???Meeting Bible Ladies???. She held many offices in many of these organizations, and served on many committees and also did a lot of volunteer work. She is survived by 1 son John Loftus of St. Paul, Mn. and 1 niece Patricia Loftus Lee of California. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Arnold, 1 son Mark and 1 brother. Fred was born February 4, 1914 at Cedarbrook, Minnesota the son of John and Jennie Kellerman. He attended schools at Cedarbrook. He then worked on the family farm. He married Melvida Monson on April 6, 1941 at Bovey, Minnesota. They made their home in Aitkin. Shortly after his marriage, he served in the US Army during WW II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Aitkin and worked in the Cuyuna Range Mines as a driller. When the mines closed, he went to work for the telephone company in Aitkin and retired from there. He was a life long member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook. Fred is survived by his wife of 68 years Melvida Kellerman of Aitkin; 1 son: Ron Kellerman of Woodbury, Mn.; 2 daughters and son in law: Joyce Berg of Bloomington, Mn.; Julie and Les McNamee of Burnsville, Mn.; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John Jack San Felippo, age 85 of Aitkin, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. John was born June 27, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of James and Sarah (Cowen) San Felippo. He grew up and attended schools in Milwaukee. He then entered the U.S. Navy and he served for 30 years. His naval career spanned WW II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He had served on two ships which were torpedoed and sunk. He loved the Navy passionately. He married Lorraine Larson in the Lat 1940???s. and shortly after he retired in the early 1970???s, she was struck and killed by a drunk driver. Upon his retirement he had moved to the McGregor area. John met Esther Pearson 5 years later and they were eventually married on February 13, 1930 in Minneapolis. They lived in McGregor and in 1984 they purchased a Tree Farm near Aitkin. In 1994 the moved to the Aitkin area and lived on their tree farm. John and Esther shared a great love for the land and they worked hard to keep the Tree Farm in good condition. John was a man with a strong work ethic, sense of duty and fair play, high intelligence, and dry wit. He is survived by his wife Esther of 29 years; 3 children and spouses: Lorilea and Otmar Klimek of Rosemount, Mn.; Jack and Kitty San Felippo of Plymouth, Mn.; Janet and Greg Nyland of Texas; 5 grandchildren: Milena Klimek, Matt San Felippo, Mike San Felippo, Ben Nyland and Katie Nyland, 2 great grandchildren: Dylan San Felippo, and Kaleb San Felippo; 2 brothers: Peter (Doris) San Felippo of Texas; Joe (Rosie) San Felippo of Tennessee; sister: Dolly Linke of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Al San Felippo and Gino San Felippo. A graveside memorial service will be held in August at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. She and her family resided in Warba, MN. She moved to Racine, WI. in the early 1950???s where she pursued a nursing career and spent her working years fulfilling her passion by doing what she believed was her life???s purpose, caring for the sick. On December 30, 1954 in Arizona Veronica was united in marriage to Vilja Belto, her wonderful, loving husband. In 1988 upon retirement, the two moved to Bullhead City, AZ. and made this their home, while spending their summers in Aitkin, MN. Kathryn ''Kay'' Beihoffer Kathryn ???Kay??? M. Beihoffer, age 79 of Aitkin formerly of Fridley died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin, Mn. Kay was born January 21, 1930 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin the daughter of Martin and Hanna (Proehl) Hoppert. She grew up and attended schools in Sheboygan graduating from the Sheboygan Central High School in 1947. She then attended the Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1951 from there. She worked at the Hospital until 1953 at which time she moved to Minneapolis and went to work for the University Of Minnesota Hospital in the pediatrics unit. She worked there until 1960. She married Dale L. Beihoffer on August 23, 1958 in Minneapolis. They made their home in Fridley where she raised her family and did day care in her home. In 1988 she and Dale retired to the Aitkin area, living on Farm Island Lake. Kay was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin and former member of St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Fridley. Kay was very active in her church having sang in the Church Choir, providing Home Communion for shut ins, served on the Kitchen Committee, was involved with the ladies circle and had been very active in providing children???s sermons on Sunday???s. She was also a member of the Garden Club, and had volunteered at the Rippleside Elementary School for 20 years. She also enjoyed swimming and rowing, and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband Dale Beihoffer of Aitkin; 2 daughters: Mary and Dan Swanson of Aitkin; Anne Beihoffer and special friend Jeff Olson of Oak Grove, Mn.; 6 grandchildren: Luke Swanson, Sarah Swanson, Noah Swanson, Hannah Swanson, Faith Swanson and Leah Swanson; 1 brother: John (Sharon) Hoppert of Sheboygan, Wisc.; 2 sisters: Harriet Stickney of Milwaukee, Wisc.; Ann (Jim) Hoppert Keller of Kohler, Wisc.; and step mother: Leona Hoppert of Sheboygan Falls, Wisc. Viljo ''Bill'' Johnson Viljo ???Bill??? Johnson, age 92 of McGregor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin, Mn. Viljo was born June 22, 1916 in Rice River Twp. of Aitkin Co. the son of Jalmer and Helmi (Kann) Johnson. He was a lifelong member of the Rice River and McGregor communities. He proudly served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945, as a member of the 321st Wildcat 81st infantry division during WW II. He was awarded the Bronze Star during active duty in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the McGregor VFW Post 2747 and served as a member of the funeral detail for military honors for many years. He married Evelyn (Harp) Swanson on November 6, 1948 at Cloquet, Mn. Viljo worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and he also logged. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, deer hunting, cards, and horseshoes. He was a great story teller who kept his family and friends hanging on to every word. Viljo is survived by his loving wife Evelyne (Freddie) of sixty years; six children: Arlis (Frank) Gardner of Butte, Montana, Ernie (Sandra) Swanson of Brighton, Colo., Robert Johnson of Minneapolis, Mn., Mary Lou (Len) Roiger of Randolph, Mn., Cindy Schuller of Owatonna, Mn., Alan Johnson of Winnemucca, Nevada; 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Elsie Jouppi. His brother Arnie passed away on March 29, 2009. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 1:00 PM from the United Methodist Church in McGregor with Rev. Russell Christensen officiating. William A. Dau, age 86 of McGregor formerly of Prior Lake, Mn. died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home in McGregor. William was born October 24, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Arnold and Mathilda (Regenauer) Dau. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis. During those years he spent the summers at the Regenauer farm near Shell Lake, Wisconsin, of which he had very fond memories. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II serving from 1942 to 1945. Upon his discharge he returned to Minnesota and married Yvonne H. Constant on September 29, 1945 in Minneapolis. They lived in Prior Lake and he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his discharge he returned home and continued working as a letter carrier. Following his retirement he learned the art of gunsmithing and was a very accomplished gunsmith. He and his wife moved to McGregor in 1974 and have resided here since. He was a 48 year member of AA and through AA he volunteered many hours going to the Aitkin County Jail and the Sandstone Federal Prison and helped counsel inmates. He is survived by 1 son and daughter in law: William and Denise Dau of Prior Lake, Mn.; 1 daughter and son in law: Connie and Tom Anderson of McGregor, Mn.; 5 grandchildren: Erin Dau, Annie-Jo Dau, Joshua Anderson, Jason Anderson, Kyle Anderson; 1 great granddaughter: Ashlyn Anderson; 1 sister: Myrtle Berg of Plymouth, Mn. He grew up and attended school near Cross Lake. He then helped with the family resort, worked as a fishing guide and logged. He later went to the Twin Cities and worked for the Scott Atwater Company. He was a jack of all trades having worked many jobs over the years. He married Sandra L. Ward on July 16, 1964 at Garrison, Mn. The have lived in the Aitkin area since. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Aitkin; the Ham Operators Club in Brainerd; and the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his younger days he raced cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles and go-carts. He graduated from Aitkin High School class of 1945. He attended St. Cloud Teachers College, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. degree in mathematics and a minor in physics. On June 27, 1951 in Aitkin, Dean was united in marriage to Corinne ???Kim??? Boudreau. He started his teaching career in Winnebago in 1950. After two years he moved to Brainerd, where he spent the next 32 years teaching junior high mathematics. In addition Dean also taught mathematics for many years at Brainerd Vo-Tech for those pursuing their GED certificates. In summers, he further supported his family by working as a paper carrier for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and selling bait. After his retirement he worked as a substitute teacher for six years. He loved to spend time with his family at his Cedar Lake home near Aitkin. It was a perfect location since Dean was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, ice and walleye fishing. Gardening, and woodcutting. He served as past state vice president of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers, a past president of the Quarterbacks Club in Brainerd, an active member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Riceland Chapter, where he served as both past president and corporate director, and as a board member of Cedar Lake Conservancy. He was also a staunch member of the National Rifle Association. Dean was a member of St. Joseph???s Catholic Church in Deerwood where he served on the parish council, the church finance council, as an eucharistic minister, and was a member of the Cuyuna Range Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of St. Andrew???s Catholic Church in Brainerd. Dean is survived by his wife Corinne 2 sons and daughter-in-law: Michael Sanford of Minneapolis Tom (Steffanie) Sanford of Aitkin Two daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy (Kerry) MacArthur of Houston, TX. Anne (Dan) Johanek of St. Cloud Grandchildren: Rob, Mary, Phillip, Elizabeth and Anna MacArthur; Taylor and Amy Johanek; Hunter, Jeb, Wyatt, Addie, Gus, and Blaise Sanford 1 brother Charles of Falmouth, Maine Besides many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald and his parents Roland and Edith. Funeral services will be 11AM ??? Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at St. Joseph???s Catholic Church in Deerwood. Fr. Howard Eisel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Aitkin. Visitation will be 4:30 to 7P.M, Monday at the church and will continue 1 hour prior to the service. Rosary services will begin at 7:00P.M. Ellen Sanda age 87 of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, a very gracious, sweet lady went home to be with her husband and three of her children on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Grand Village Nursing Home in Grand Rapids. Ellen was born on April 12, 1922 at Palisade, Mn. the daughter of Finnish Immigrants; Abel and Ann (Maki) Saastamoinen. She married Jack Sanda on October 14, 1941 at Cloquet, Minnesota. They made their home in East Lake and together had five children; Loretta Jane, Shirley Mae, Dinah Jean, Donald Jack, and Rosemary Ellen. After her husband Jack passed away in 1966, Ellen earned her Home Health and Nursing Assistant certificates. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls that she made at the former Roadside Caf?? in McGregor. One of her many accomplishments, and one of her families proudest moments, was when, at age 67, she graduated from Hibbing Vo-Tech College with a degree in Textiles and Apparel occupations. She sewed clothes, curtains and gifts for her family and friends. She made her home in Grand Rapids where she was a foster grandparent, hospitality hostess, RSVP volunteer, VFW auxiliary member, and a Salvation Army volunteer. Ellen touched the lives of so many with her kind and generous spirit. Her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes were a welcome sight to see and made everyone who met her very fortunate. She was not one to complain and was always there to lend a hand. We will miss our gracious Mom, Nana, Granny, Gramma, friend, neighbor, relative very much. She will be in our hearts forever. She will be sadly missed by two daughters: Shirley (Alfred) Maki of McGregor; Rose (Kevin) Weston of Grand Rapids, Mn.; 1 brother: Arvid Saastamoinen of Columbia Heights, Mn.; grandchildren: Dawn, Nona, Nicole, Megan, Lena, Jessie, Christi, and Ashley; 11 great grandchildren and special friends Twyla and Roy Sundin and many other relatives and friends. Ellen went to be at home with her husband Jack, daughters Loretta Jane and Dinah Jean; son Donald Jack; 1 sister, 3 brothers, 1 grandson, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11 AM from Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McGregor with Rev. Henry Koopman officiating. Burial will be in the Rice River Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Keith Eld, Brian Waddick, Roy Hicks, Mark Taschuk, Steve Sanda and Doug Saastamoinen. Honorary pallbearers will be: Megan Maki, Alfred Maki, Kevin Weston, Vern Kemnitz, and Dennis Olson. Thomas L. Praske, 53 of Aitkin died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born October 5, 1955 in Clear Lake, SD. to Paul and Mae (Goodmonson) Praske. He worked as a painter for Homestead Painting for the past 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and horses. He loved his grandchildren. Margaret Catherine McConnell, age 92 of Aitkin died Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City, Minnesota. Margaret was born January 17, 1917 in Aitkin the daughter of Benjamin and Barbara (Foley) Hassman. She grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1935. She then attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Mn. for two years. She then moved to the Twin Cities where she attended the Minnesota School of Business. During WW II she worked in Alaska for the war effort. She also worked in Guam, Seattle, Wash., and in Tennessee. She married Burt McConnell on August 28, 1951. They lived in Florida until 1962 at which time the moved to Aitkin and have lived here since. Margaret was an avid traveler and enjoyed seeing different parts of the world. She also enjoyed reading. In her younger years she enjoyed the game of golf. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. She is survived by 1 daughter and son in law: Pat and Ken Kutz of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; 3 grandsons: Brian Kutz, Sean Kutz, and Brendan Kutz all of Grantsburg. She is also survived by 1 sister: Mary Schoepf of Aitkin and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burt in 1975, 1 brother Richard Hassman and 3 sisters: Charlotte Welshons, Caroline Ryan, and Corinne Lynch Peterson Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Paul Fruth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Goldie Maye Adams, 92 of McGregor died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born August 3, 1916 in Maxwell, IA. to Walter and Mary Bennethum. She grew up in Aitkin graduating from Aitkin High School. On October 12, 1935 in Carlton, Goldie was united in marriage to Garry Wilson Adams. They moved to Iowa where they operated a grocery store in Des Moines. She also worked as an administrative assistant for insurance companies. They moved to McGregor in 1966 where she was a very active member of Round Lake Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, and birds. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dennis (Mary) Adams of Plymouth Daughter-in-law: Mary Adams of Rochester 2 grandsons: Matthew (Shana) Adams of Rockford Ricky Adams of Nevada One granddaughter: Christine (Jeff) Dahle of Stewartville 4 great-grandchildren: Danika, Jakob, Mikayla, and Cameron One sister: Cleo Storm of Knoxville, IA. Dorothy M. Green, age 92 of Aitkin died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Dorothy was born November 4, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Krogstad) Bertram. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul graduating from Central High School. She then attended nurse???s school for a time in the Twin Cities. She married Elof Green on June 20, 1936 in Aitkin. They made their home on the family farm at Rossburg near Aitkin. She had lived at the home place up until April of 2006 at which time she moved into Aitkin. She was a member of the Aitkin Assembly of God Church where she held numerous positions in the church. She especially enjoyed leading Bible Studies. She had sung for many funerals throughout the years. Her biggest love was to take care of her family. She is survived by 1 son and daughter in law: Jerome (Jerry) and Debra Green of Rockford, Illinois; 4 daughters and sons in law: Karen and Roger Baker of Aitkin; Judith (Judy) and Daryl Wileman of Clark, South Dakota; Ruth Korzenowski of Coon Rapids, Mn.; Kathryn and Roy Miles of Staples, Mn.; 19 grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elof in 1998, 1 son in law, 3 children, 1 grandchild, 1 great grandchild, 1 sister and 2 brothers. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 2:30 PM from the Aitkin Assemblies of God Church with Rev. Dan Turner officiating. John E. Ingebrigtson, age 87 of McGregor formerly of Crystal, Mn. died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin, Mn. He was born February 10, 1922 at Maple Plain, Mn. the son of John and Elise (Moe) Ingebrigtson. He attended Mound School and then moved to Fairhaven, Mn. He married Gladys L. Koivula on October 24, 1945 in Minneapolis. He worked for Northwest Airlines, Oliver Farm Machinery, and later founded Gopher State Tractor Sales. He enjoyed collecting old tractors and was an avid restorer of vintage aircraft, and has now ???Gone West???. John wanted everyone to know that ???I Had A Lot Of Fun In My Life???. He is survived by children: Barbara Ingebrigtson, Jeffrey Ingebrigtson, Travis and Joan Ingebrigtson, Debra and Jim Lund, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 sister: Olga Wykoff and 1 brother: Kenneth Ingebrigtson.
