Mavis K. McGuire, 68 of Aitkin died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born November 21, 1940 in Stillwater to Walter and Donelda (Rubow) LaRoche. She graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 1958 and then the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. On September 28, 1963 Mavis was united in marriage to Donald ???Mike??? McGuire at St. Andrews Church in Mahtomedi. They owned and operated Whitewood Resort on Spirit Lake since 1971. She was employed as Aitkin County???s first Home Extension Agent. She drove bus for Aitkin Schools for 25 years, she owned Whitewood Square Dance Boutique, she was President of the Cuyuna Rock, Gem, & Mineral Club, a member of the Riverboat Reelers, she was board chair for Aitkin County H.R.A., an active member of First Lutheran Church, she designed costumes for Aitkin High School musicals and plays, and was a 4-H judge for county fairs. She enjoyed sewing, collecting nut crackers, and square dancing. Mavis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Todd (Charmayne) of Pulaski, WI. Daughter and son-in-law: Wanda McGuire and Rob Doenges of Hanover, IN. 3 Grandsons: Brady, Michael, and Alexander Three sisters: Darlene Colonna of Framingham, MA. Betty (Laverne) Forrest of Fitchburg, WI. Marcella (Jack) Isenhart of Omaha, NE. 2 brothers: Walter LaRoche of Forest Lake Lester (Robin) LaRoche of Mahtomedi Uncle Orville and Aunt Pauline Rubow of Deerwood And many other close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Mike in 2005, daughter-in-law Wendy, sister-in-law Shirley LaRoche, brother-in-law Anthony Colonna, and her parents Walter and Donelda (Rubow) LaRoche. Funeral services will be 1:00P.M., Friday, July 17, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Reverend Lance Isaacson will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8P.M., Thursday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Joan M. Lueck, age 79 of Aitkin died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born July 7, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the daughter of Robert and Madelyn (Westling) Lindberg. She grew up and attended schools at Wayzata, Minnesota. She married Marvin Frost. She worked as a dental assistant and also worked as an occasional model for several Wayzata women???s clothing stores. She also worked at Sherwood Forest near Garrison. She was an Aitkin County Senior Volunteer, was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook, and enjoyed hooking rugs, reading, sewing and golfing. She had served as president of the Wayzata Women???s Club and vice president of the Wayzata Women???s Auxiliary. She married Conrad A. Lueck on April 6, 1986 at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook. Joan is survived by her husband Conrad Lueck of Aitkin; 3 sons and daughters in law: Judd and Debra Frost of Wayzata, Mn.; John and Janelle Frost of Rancho Santa Fe, California; Mark Lueck of Aitkin; daughter in law: Middie Frost-Ringer of Medina, Mn.; 1 brother: Richard P. Lindberg of New Hope, Mn.; Grandchildren: Madeline Frost, Judson Frost, Marcus Frost, Jessica Frost, step grandchildren: Kati Field, Thomas Field, step great grandchild: Christian Field. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son James Marvin Frost, and 1 brother Robert. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM from St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook near Aitkin, with Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating. George ''Buddy'' Roderick George ''Buddy'' E. Roderick, 77, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. He had been suffering from Alzheimer???s for 11 years. He was born November 3, 1931 in International Falls to parents Sherman and Mildred (Nelson) Roderick. He went to school in International Falls and then worked at Ontario Mando Paper Mill until he joined the Air Force in 1951. He served in Korea as a cook and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was discharged in 1955 and returned to International Falls and continued to work at the mill. He then married and moved to Virginia, Mn where he worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. From there he moved to Leadville, Colorado and worked in the mine. He then moved to Everett, WA. and worked for Nord Door Co., returning from there in 1967 to Minneapolis where he went to work for Superior Plating. From there he worked as a pressman for B.F. Nelson Folding Carton Company until he retired in 1993 and moved to McGregor, Mn. He was a lifetime Member of the VFW in International Falls. He belonged to Gopher 2 Pup tent of the Cooties. He was a member of Round Lake Presbyterian church where he served as a session member. He loved music, hunting, fishing, gardening, taking movies, children and the Vikings. He is survived by his wife, Kathryne. Daughters: Roxanne (David) Aitkin, Loretta Hallquist, Kathleen (James) Hennessey, Teresa Christie. Grandchildren: Alexander (Melinda) Aitkin, Amanda (Charles) Ennen, Amber (Daniel) Mevissen, Anthony Hallquist, Jeremy (Cathy) Gillis, Justin (Stephanie) Vick, Toni (Gene) Borrell, Angie (Gary) Vetsch, Angela (Dana) Tompkins, and Erica Christie. Great-Grandchildren: Tony, Aacoda, Alexander, Davian, Nicholas, Elayna, Matthew, Josephine, Cheyenne, Neveah, Alex, Nolan, Brittany, Colton, Rachel, Megan, Owen, Austin, William, Lacy, Morgan, Madison, McKenzie, Tyler, Baylie. She was born July 13, 1914 in Highwood, IL. to John and Olga (Hjelm) Bjork. Lillian was united in marriage to Donald Van Wambeke. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, and an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Elgin. Lillian is survived 3 children: Marjorie (Ray) Pratt of Aitkin, MN. Barbara was born June 2, 1944 in Los Angeles, California the daughter of David and Vela (Gephart) Livingston. She grew up and attended schools in Los Angeles and then worked. She drove bus for 12 years and then worked numerous jobs in California. She moved to the McGregor area in the late 1980???s and had worked as a waitress, drove the Medi Van and had also worked at the Northland Village Assisted Living Center. She is survived by 2 sons: Robert White of Georgia, Mark White of California; Mother: Vela Swanson of McGregor; Brothers and spouses: David and Debbie Livingston of Lodi, Calf.; Stanley and Jeannie Livingston of Burlington, New Jersey; Paul Swanson of Grand Marais, Mn.; Rahn and Sharon Swanson of East Bethel, Mn.; 1 sister and spouse: Joyce and Russ Burdick of Tamarack; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth Margarette (Teare) Loftus, age 84 of McGregor died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Northland Assisted Living Center in McGregor. Ruth was born July 10, 1924 in Hastings, Minnesota the daughter of Lynn and Gretchen (Harms) Teare. She lived attended grade school at Gaylord, Minnesota with her grandparents Ernest and Anna Harms. She then attended Marshal High School in St Paul from which she graduated and then attended Rasmusson???s Business College. She worked as a secretary for a fur company in St. Paul where she also did modeling of their products. She then worked as a secretary for Fairbanks Morse Pump Co. in St. Paul until 1954 when she became a stay at home mom. She married Arnold Loftus on September 21, 1951 in St. Paul. In 1964 she went back to work as a secretary at Univac in Roseville and then joined Comten in Roseville (an offspring of Univac) until her retirement in 1978. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to McGregor and she has lived here since. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of McGregor, a charter member of the Big Sandy Lake Association, charter member of the AARP chapter in McGregor, member of the McGregor Lioness/Lions since 1981 and was a member of the Pine Needles and Pens Writing Group. In 2006, she wrote and published a book titles ???Meeting Bible Ladies???. She held many offices in many of these organizations, and served on many committees and also did a lot of volunteer work. She is survived by 1 son John Loftus of St. Paul, Mn. and 1 niece Patricia Loftus Lee of California. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Arnold, 1 son Mark and 1 brother. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 11 AM from Grace Lutheran Church near McGregor with Rev. Becky Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Needle Cemetery. H. Irene Rasmussen, age 91 of Aitkin formerly of the Twin Cities died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin. Irene was born April 29, 1918 at Aitkin, Minnesota the daughter of Ernest and Nellie (Page) Rehn. She grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from Aitkin High School. She then attended Hamlin University for two years. She married Arthur Rasmussen on April 4, 1942 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They made their home in the Twin Cities and Irene raised her family. She also worked in the Irondale High School Library for 20 years. They retired to Aitkin in the early 1980???s and have lived here since. She was a member of the Aitkin Eastern Star. She is survived by 1 daughter: Jane Kaufmann of St. Paul and 1 son and daughter in law: Dave and Nicole Rasmussen of Roseville, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 1 niece Cathy Cerny. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Art in 2005,infant daughter Bette 1 grandson Scott Kaufmann, 1 sister Mary Cerny and 1 nephew John Cerny. Fred C. Kellerman, age 95 of Aitkin died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Fred was born February 4, 1914 at Cedarbrook, Minnesota the son of John and Jennie Kellerman. He attended schools at Cedarbrook. He then worked on the family farm. He married Melvida Monson on April 6, 1941 at Bovey, Minnesota. They made their home in Aitkin. Shortly after his marriage, he served in the US Army during WW II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Aitkin and worked in the Cuyuna Range Mines as a driller. When the mines closed, he went to work for the telephone company in Aitkin and retired from there. He was a life long member of St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook. Fred is survived by his wife of 68 years Melvida Kellerman of Aitkin; 1 son: Ron Kellerman of Woodbury, Mn.; 2 daughters and son in law: Joyce Berg of Bloomington, Mn.; Julie and Les McNamee of Burnsville, Mn.; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter: Jean Larson, 1 granddaughter: Janelle Larson; son in law: Al Berg, Parents, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 AM from St. Johns Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook with Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating. John Jack San Felippo, age 85 of Aitkin, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. John was born June 27, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of James and Sarah (Cowen) San Felippo. He grew up and attended schools in Milwaukee. He then entered the U.S. Navy and he served for 30 years. His naval career spanned WW II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He had served on two ships which were torpedoed and sunk. He loved the Navy passionately. He married Lorraine Larson in the Lat 1940???s. and shortly after he retired in the early 1970???s, she was struck and killed by a drunk driver. Upon his retirement he had moved to the McGregor area. John met Esther Pearson 5 years later and they were eventually married on February 13, 1930 in Minneapolis. They lived in McGregor and in 1984 they purchased a Tree Farm near Aitkin. In 1994 the moved to the Aitkin area and lived on their tree farm. John and Esther shared a great love for the land and they worked hard to keep the Tree Farm in good condition. John was a man with a strong work ethic, sense of duty and fair play, high intelligence, and dry wit. He is survived by his wife Esther of 29 years; 3 children and spouses: Lorilea and Otmar Klimek of Rosemount, Mn.; Jack and Kitty San Felippo of Plymouth, Mn.; Janet and Greg Nyland of Texas; 5 grandchildren: Milena Klimek, Matt San Felippo, Mike San Felippo, Ben Nyland and Katie Nyland, 2 great grandchildren: Dylan San Felippo, and Kaleb San Felippo; 2 brothers: Peter (Doris) San Felippo of Texas; Joe (Rosie) San Felippo of Tennessee; sister: Dolly Linke of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Al San Felippo and Gino San Felippo. A graveside memorial service will be held in August at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Veronica R. Belto, 95 a former Racine, WI. resident was called home by the Lord Tuesday, June 16, 2009. She was born June 5, 1914 to Jack and Anna (Vadnais) McCauley in De Graff, MN. She and her family resided in Warba, MN. She moved to Racine, WI. in the early 1950???s where she pursued a nursing career and spent her working years fulfilling her passion by doing what she believed was her life???s purpose, caring for the sick. On December 30, 1954 in Arizona Veronica was united in marriage to Vilja Belto, her wonderful, loving husband. In 1988 upon retirement, the two moved to Bullhead City, AZ. and made this their home, while spending their summers in Aitkin, MN. She is survived by two sons: Edward (Helen) Lindgren of Pengilly, MN. Earl (Charlotte) Lindgren of Aitkin, MN. 7 grandchildren Nineteen great-grandchildren 11 great-great-grandchilden One brother Bill (MAC) McCauley of Prescott, AZ. 1 sister Della Howe of Racine, WI. and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Kathryn ''Kay'' Beihoffer Kathryn ???Kay??? M. Beihoffer, age 79 of Aitkin formerly of Fridley died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin, Mn. Kay was born January 21, 1930 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin the daughter of Martin and Hanna (Proehl) Hoppert. She grew up and attended schools in Sheboygan graduating from the Sheboygan Central High School in 1947. She then attended the Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1951 from there. She worked at the Hospital until 1953 at which time she moved to Minneapolis and went to work for the University Of Minnesota Hospital in the pediatrics unit. She worked there until 1960. She married Dale L. Beihoffer on August 23, 1958 in Minneapolis. They made their home in Fridley where she raised her family and did day care in her home. In 1988 she and Dale retired to the Aitkin area, living on Farm Island Lake. Kay was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin and former member of St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Fridley. Kay was very active in her church having sang in the Church Choir, providing Home Communion for shut ins, served on the Kitchen Committee, was involved with the ladies circle and had been very active in providing children???s sermons on Sunday???s. She was also a member of the Garden Club, and had volunteered at the Rippleside Elementary School for 20 years. She also enjoyed swimming and rowing, and most of all enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her husband Dale Beihoffer of Aitkin; 2 daughters: Mary and Dan Swanson of Aitkin; Anne Beihoffer and special friend Jeff Olson of Oak Grove, Mn.; 6 grandchildren: Luke Swanson, Sarah Swanson, Noah Swanson, Hannah Swanson, Faith Swanson and Leah Swanson; 1 brother: John (Sharon) Hoppert of Sheboygan, Wisc.; 2 sisters: Harriet Stickney of Milwaukee, Wisc.; Ann (Jim) Hoppert Keller of Kohler, Wisc.; and step mother: Leona Hoppert of Sheboygan Falls, Wisc. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter: Angela Glaser, 2 brothers: Frederick Hoppert Sr and Martin Hoppert. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11 AM from First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. Lance Isaacson and Rev. Sarah Cordray officiating. Viljo ''Bill'' Johnson Viljo ???Bill??? Johnson, age 92 of McGregor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin, Mn. Viljo was born June 22, 1916 in Rice River Twp. of Aitkin Co. the son of Jalmer and Helmi (Kann) Johnson. He was a lifelong member of the Rice River and McGregor communities. He proudly served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945, as a member of the 321st Wildcat 81st infantry division during WW II. He was awarded the Bronze Star during active duty in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the McGregor VFW Post 2747 and served as a member of the funeral detail for military honors for many years. He married Evelyn (Harp) Swanson on November 6, 1948 at Cloquet, Mn. Viljo worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and he also logged. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, deer hunting, cards, and horseshoes. He was a great story teller who kept his family and friends hanging on to every word. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Elsie Jouppi. His brother Arnie passed away on March 29, 2009. William A. Dau, age 86 of McGregor formerly of Prior Lake, Mn. died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home in McGregor. William was born October 24, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Arnold and Mathilda (Regenauer) Dau. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis. During those years he spent the summers at the Regenauer farm near Shell Lake, Wisconsin, of which he had very fond memories. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II serving from 1942 to 1945. Upon his discharge he returned to Minnesota and married Yvonne H. Constant on September 29, 1945 in Minneapolis. They lived in Prior Lake and he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon his discharge he returned home and continued working as a letter carrier. Following his retirement he learned the art of gunsmithing and was a very accomplished gunsmith. He and his wife moved to McGregor in 1974 and have resided here since. He was a 48 year member of AA and through AA he volunteered many hours going to the Aitkin County Jail and the Sandstone Federal Prison and helped counsel inmates. He is survived by 1 son and daughter in law: William and Denise Dau of Prior Lake, Mn.; 1 daughter and son in law: Connie and Tom Anderson of McGregor, Mn.; 5 grandchildren: Erin Dau, Annie-Jo Dau, Joshua Anderson, Jason Anderson, Kyle Anderson; 1 great granddaughter: Ashlyn Anderson; 1 sister: Myrtle Berg of Plymouth, Mn. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne in 2005 and 1 sister Arlene. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM from Grace Lutheran Church near McGregor with Rev. He grew up and attended schools at Mitchell South Dakota. He then moved with his family to Tamarack in 1999 and he attended the Cromwell and McGregor Schools. He had an opportunity to travel throughout the United States seeing many different sites. He most recently returned home to Tamarack in February of this year. He enjoyed working on automobiles and loved to fish. He grew up and attended school near Cross Lake. He then helped with the family resort, worked as a fishing guide and logged. He later went to the Twin Cities and worked for the Scott Atwater Company. He was a jack of all trades having worked many jobs over the years. He married Sandra L. Ward on July 16, 1964 at Garrison, Mn. The have lived in the Aitkin area since. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Aitkin; the Ham Operators Club in Brainerd; and the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his younger days he raced cars, snowmobiles, motorcycles and go-carts. He is survived by his wife Sandra Bartel of Aitkin; Children and spouses: James Bartel and Kathy Crump of Aitkin; Jane and Terry Lenzen of Aitkin; Keith and Teresa Bartel of Beaver Bay, Mn.; Gina and Mark Wold of Aitkin and Chad Bartel of Ironton, Mn.; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Verda Girgen of Polk City, Florida and Helen Kilian of Crosslake, Mn. He then worked for Borson Construction Co. in the Twin Cities and later for Olympic Drywall and Conroy Brothers as a sheet rocker. He married Josephine Wacholz on March 16, 1956. They lived in the Aitkin area most of their live. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, leatherwork, carving, and gardening and also enjoyed building fishing rods. Dean Paul Sanford, 82 of Aitkin died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his residence. He was born December 16, 1926 in Boise, Idaho to Roland and Edith (Lasher) Sanford. He graduated from Aitkin High School class of 1945. He attended St. Cloud Teachers College, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. degree in mathematics and a minor in physics. On June 27, 1951 in Aitkin, Dean was united in marriage to Corinne ???Kim??? Boudreau. He started his teaching career in Winnebago in 1950. After two years he moved to Brainerd, where he spent the next 32 years teaching junior high mathematics. In addition Dean also taught mathematics for many years at Brainerd Vo-Tech for those pursuing their GED certificates. In summers, he further supported his family by working as a paper carrier for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and selling bait. After his retirement he worked as a substitute teacher for six years. He loved to spend time with his family at his Cedar Lake home near Aitkin. It was a perfect location since Dean was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, ice and walleye fishing. Gardening, and woodcutting. He served as past state vice president of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers, a past president of the Quarterbacks Club in Brainerd, an active member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Riceland Chapter, where he served as both past president and corporate director, and as a board member of Cedar Lake Conservancy. He was also a staunch member of the National Rifle Association. Dean was a member of St. Joseph???s Catholic Church in Deerwood where he served on the parish council, the church finance council, as an eucharistic minister, and was a member of the Cuyuna Range Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of St. Andrew???s Catholic Church in Brainerd. Ellen Sanda age 87 of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, a very gracious, sweet lady went home to be with her husband and three of her children on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Grand Village Nursing Home in Grand Rapids. Ellen was born on April 12, 1922 at Palisade, Mn. the daughter of Finnish Immigrants; Abel and Ann (Maki) Saastamoinen. She married Jack Sanda on October 14, 1941 at Cloquet, Minnesota. They made their home in East Lake and together had five children; Loretta Jane, Shirley Mae, Dinah Jean, Donald Jack, and Rosemary Ellen. After her husband Jack passed away in 1966, Ellen earned her Home Health and Nursing Assistant certificates. She was well known for her cinnamon rolls that she made at the former Roadside Caf?? in McGregor. One of her many accomplishments, and one of her families proudest moments, was when, at age 67, she graduated from Hibbing Vo-Tech College with a degree in Textiles and Apparel occupations. She sewed clothes, curtains and gifts for her family and friends. She made her home in Grand Rapids where she was a foster grandparent, hospitality hostess, RSVP volunteer, VFW auxiliary member, and a Salvation Army volunteer. Ellen touched the lives of so many with her kind and generous spirit. Her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes were a welcome sight to see and made everyone who met her very fortunate. She was not one to complain and was always there to lend a hand. We will miss our gracious Mom, Nana, Granny, Gramma, friend, neighbor, relative very much. She will be in our hearts forever. She will be sadly missed by two daughters: Shirley (Alfred) Maki of McGregor; Rose (Kevin) Weston of Grand Rapids, Mn.; 1 brother: Arvid Saastamoinen of Columbia Heights, Mn.; grandchildren: Dawn, Nona, Nicole, Megan, Lena, Jessie, Christi, and Ashley; 11 great grandchildren and special friends Twyla and Roy Sundin and many other relatives and friends. Margaret Catherine McConnell, age 92 of Aitkin died Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Lakeside Medical Center in Pine City, Minnesota. Margaret was born January 17, 1917 in Aitkin the daughter of Benjamin and Barbara (Foley) Hassman. She grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1935. She then attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Mn. for two years. She then moved to the Twin Cities where she attended the Minnesota School of Business. During WW II she worked in Alaska for the war effort. She also worked in Guam, Seattle, Wash., and in Tennessee. She married Burt McConnell on August 28, 1951. They lived in Florida until 1962 at which time the moved to Aitkin and have lived here since. Margaret was an avid traveler and enjoyed seeing different parts of the world. She also enjoyed reading. In her younger years she enjoyed the game of golf. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin. She is survived by 1 daughter and son in law: Pat and Ken Kutz of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; 3 grandsons: Brian Kutz, Sean Kutz, and Brendan Kutz all of Grantsburg. She is also survived by 1 sister: Mary Schoepf of Aitkin and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burt in 1975, 1 brother Richard Hassman and 3 sisters: Charlotte Welshons, Caroline Ryan, and Corinne Lynch Peterson Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Paul Fruth officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Goldie Maye Adams, 92 of McGregor died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born August 3, 1916 in Maxwell, IA. to Walter and Mary Bennethum. She grew up in Aitkin graduating from Aitkin High School. On October 12, 1935 in Carlton, Goldie was united in marriage to Garry Wilson Adams. They moved to Iowa where they operated a grocery store in Des Moines. She also worked as an administrative assistant for insurance companies. They moved to McGregor in 1966 where she was a very active member of Round Lake Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, and birds. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dennis (Mary) Adams of Plymouth Daughter-in-law: Mary Adams of Rochester 2 grandsons: Matthew (Shana) Adams of Rockford Ricky Adams of Nevada One granddaughter: Christine (Jeff) Dahle of Stewartville 4 great-grandchildren: Danika, Jakob, Mikayla, and Cameron One sister: Cleo Storm of Knoxville, IA. Dorothy was born November 4, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Krogstad) Bertram. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul graduating from Central High School. She then attended nurse???s school for a time in the Twin Cities. She married Elof Green on June 20, 1936 in Aitkin. They made their home on the family farm at Rossburg near Aitkin. She had lived at the home place up until April of 2006 at which time she moved into Aitkin. She was a member of the Aitkin Assembly of God Church where she held numerous positions in the church. She especially enjoyed leading Bible Studies. She had sung for many funerals throughout the years. Her biggest love was to take care of her family. She is survived by 1 son and daughter in law: Jerome (Jerry) and Debra Green of Rockford, Illinois; 4 daughters and sons in law: Karen and Roger Baker of Aitkin; Judith (Judy) and Daryl Wileman of Clark, South Dakota; Ruth Korzenowski of Coon Rapids, Mn.; Kathryn and Roy Miles of Staples, Mn.; 19 grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Koivula on October 24, 1945 in Minneapolis. He worked for Northwest Airlines, Oliver Farm Machinery, and later founded Gopher State Tractor Sales. He enjoyed collecting old tractors and was an avid restorer of vintage aircraft, and has now ???Gone West???. John wanted everyone to know that ???I Had A Lot Of Fun In My Life???. Robert was born October 28, 1939 at Baldwin, Wisconsin the son of Meddie A. and Mary L (Shine) Podvin. He grew up and attended schools in Minneapolis. He worked as a mechanical engineer and draftsman for many years. He married Judith Ann Nordby on May 13, 1977 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The lived in Minneapolis and then retired to Aitkin in 2001. He enjoyed working on tractors and had a passion for black powder guns. She has lived in the McGregor area the past 20 years. She was a member and Past President of the McGregor VFW Post Auxiliary 2747, charter member and past secretary and treasurer of the McGregor American Legion Post Auxiliary #23, past board member of the McGregor Area Clothes Closet, and a member of the Federal Cartridge 20 year Club. Woodrow on February 10, 1951 in Aitkin. She lived in Aitkin and raised her family. She had also served as the head officer at the Aitkin Landfill for 8 years. She was a longtime 4-H Leader; she enjoyed gardening and flowers, loved spending time with her grandchildren, was involved with Bible Studies and was a gentle prayer warrior. Richard J. Reimer, age 78 of McGregor formerly of Minneapolis died Monday, April 13, 2009. Richard was born November 13, 1930 at Eureka, South Dakota the youngest son of Ed C. and Paulina (Kiepke) Reimer. He attended a rural school near Artas, South Dakota and High School in Zeeland, North Dakota. He married Lucille Elizabeth Roberts on May 26, 1957. They moved to the Minneapolis area finally settling in New Hope in 1968. He worked construction as a heavy equipment operator working on many large construction projects like the Metropolitan Medical Center, Northwest Bank Building, the IDS Center, the Target Center and many more. When he retired he moved to the McGregor area with his longtime girlfriend Janice Johnson. Together they ran the Deer Trails gift shop and flee market. He went to auctioneering school and began holding auctions in the surrounding areas. He has spent the past few winters in Donna Texas. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and snowmobile racing. His favorite pastime was playing cribbage and was willing to take anyone on. He will be missed by all who loved to negotiate, by all who loved a good joke, by all who loved a good competitive game and anyone looking for a bargain. He is survived by 4 children and spouses: Curtis Robert and wife Ronda of Maple Grove, MN.; Michael Edward of Richfield; Roberta Lynne of Edina and Richard John Jr. of New Hope; 2 sisters: Verna Ochsner, Renata Ochsner; brother in law: Pete Ochsner, sister in law: Ruth Reimer and numerous nieces and nephews. Virgil was born July 23, 1923 at Elbow Lake, Minnesota the son of Marion and Mathilda (Andresen) Anderson. He attended school in Elbow Lake in his early years and then moved with his family to the McGregor area where he continued his education graduating from the McGregor High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Upon his discharge he returned to Minnesota and worked in various communities until returning to McGregor. He married Hazel M. Anderson on December 21, 1963 in Aitkin. They lived in Tamarack until moving to Aitkin in 1980 and he has lived in Aitkin since. He worked for Woodland Container from 1976 to 1986. He has most recently resided at the Aicota Health Carte Center in Aitkin. He was a member of the Aitkin VFW Post, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He also enjoyed reading books. He was the Poet Laureate of the Aicota Health Care Center. He moved with his family to California at an early age where he attended elementary school. He then returned to Minnesota and graduated from the Grand Rapids Ag School. He worked a number of jobs but then worked for the Olson Fish Co. in Minneapolis. He returned to Hill City and worked for Lamco for a time and then went to work for the Hill City School system as a custodian. He worked for them for 25 years retiring in 1996. He married Connie J. (Howard) Holm on September 19, 1970 in Hill City. He enjoyed wood carving and also hunting and fishing. Clarice was born September 14, 1918 at Minneota, Minnesota the daughter of Swen and Clare (Hall) Kvanbeck. She grew up and attended schools in Minneota graduating from High School there. She married George A. Billington on June 8, 1940 at Marshall, Minnesota. They lived in Tracy, Minnesota and she worked for the Veterans Administration in St. Paul, Mn. In 1980 they retired to McGregor. Her husband George passed away in 1992. She has most recently resided at the Grace Point Crossing Care Facility in Cambridge. She enjoyed gardening and dogs. She is survived by 1 son and daughter in law: Thomas and Linda Billington of McGregor; 1 daughter Judy Billington of Ham Lake, Mn.; 1 granddaughter: Jennifer Morales of Phoenix, Arz and 1 great granddaughter Monica Morales of Phoenix and also 1 sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George 1 brother and 2 sisters. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 3PM at the Lakeview Cemetery near Rat Lake. Rev. Arnie F. Johnson, 84 of McGregor died of Myelofibrosis Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 13, 1924 in Rice River Township to Jalmer and Helmi Maria (Kann) Johnson. He graduated from McGregor High School, class of 1942. He was a U.S. Army, 10th Mountain Division Veteran. On October 11, 1960 Arnie was united in marriage to Lois Hanson. He worked as a logger, in construction, farming, and drove school bus for McGregor Schools. He loved fishing, was a member of the Rice River Senior Center, and attended Beaver Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Lois One son and daughter-in-law Eric (Sherry) of Lakeland Three grandchildren: LeeAnne, Lyndsey, and Bradley One great grandchild Caden He was preceded in death two infant sons David and Daniel, one brother Viljo Johnson, one sister Elsie Jouppi, and his parents Jalmer and Helmi Maria (Kann) Johnson. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the 11:00A.M., Saturday, April 4, 2009 funeral service at the United Methodist Church in McGregor. Dennis W. Johnson, age 78 of Garrison formerly of Minneapolis died Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Dennis was born July 12, 1930 in Brainerd, Minnesota the son of Mainard and Esther (Wohlers) Johnson. He attended school at Pine Center, Mn. He worked for many years in the Twin Cities in the Construction Industry. He retired to Garrison and has lived here for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Garrison Commercial Club, enjoyed gardening, fishing, NASCAR Racing, snowmobiling racing and giving hay rides in the Garrison area with his John Deere Tractor. Marvin L. Wyman, age 86 of McGregor, formerly of the Twin Cities died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at his home near McGregor. Marvin was born June 3, 1922 in Ventura, Iowa the son of Eddie and Agnes (Schinzel) Wyman. He grew up and attended schools in Iowa, Rockford, Ill. and Minneapolis graduating from West High School. He then entered the US army and served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He also attended the University of North Carolina for 3 years. Upon his discharge he returned to Minneapolis and married Gertrude ???Trudy??? Lego on August 2, 1944 in St. Paul. They made their home in Richfield and later in St. Louis Park. Marvin worked with his father and brothers as an iron worker and operated their own business erecting steel buildings. He operated Wyco Inc. and Wyman Erection Service Co. They built steel buildings throughout the mid-west. He had been coming to the McGregor area for many years. He had purchased a lot in 1945 and hand built the home there. He and his wife retired to McGregor in 1992 and have lived here since. He had been involved in the Old Timers Hockey League, had served as the Assistant General Manager for the 1964 Olympic Hockey Team, and had also served as Chief of off ice officials for the Minnesota North Stars. He was a pilot, and avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his wife Gertrude ???Trudy??? Wyman of McGregor; Children and spouses: Sharon and Herman Sinn of Dade City, Fla.; Susan and Charles Krumrie of Minneapolis; Kris and Steve Steege of Burnsville, Mn.; Marvin Jr. and Nancy Wyman of McGregor; Kevin and Lori Wyman of Burnsville; Jim and Kris Wyman of Brainerd; son in law: Wayne Bergstrom of Middle River, Mn.; 11 Grandchildren: Kevin Westberg, Jeff Sinn, Brandon Steege, Ryan Steege, Mason Wyman, Laura Dahl, Kelly Sinn, Dakota Boyd, Samantha Wyman, Malorie Wyman and Emily Wyman. 4 great grandchildren: Hillary Dahl, Morgan Dahl, Brady Westberg, and Sierra Westberg, 2 brothers: Veryl Wyman of Howard Lake, Mn.; Dale Wyman of Eden Prairie; 1 sister: Maxine Wright of Portland, Oregon. Charles ''Chuckie'' Siebert Charles ???Chuckie??? W. Siebert, age 62 of Aitkin died Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. Charles was born July 10, 1946 at St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Gordon and Shirley (Hinzie) Siebert. He moved at a young age to California where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from High school there and attended two years of college. He then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge he returned to California and lived there for a time. He married Sharon L. Adcock on November 18, 1991 in Colorado Springs, Colo. They moved to Aitkin, Mn. in 1995 and have lived here since. He worked a number of years for the Oak Ridge Homes in Aitkin. He enjoyed fishing and crocheting. He is survived by his wife Sharon Siebert of Aitkin; Mother: Shirley Siebert of San Jose, Calf.; daughters: Kristin Siebert of Castro Valley, Calf.; Michelle (Bill) Sadler of Aitkin; son: Jeffrey Siebert of Castro Valley, Calf.; Grandchildren: Cody Sadler, Casey Sadler, Andrew Siebert and 1 brother Douglas Siebert. ters Terry M. Watters, age 59 of Aitkin formerly of Rockford, Ill. Died Friday, March 20, 2009 at her home near Aitkin. Terry was born October 20, 1949 at Rockford, Illinois the daughter of Earl and Lois (Warnes) Lungstrom. She grew up and attended schools in Rockford graduating from Boylan High School in 1967. She then attended Northern Illinois University for a time. She married Vern Watters on August 14, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They came to the Aitkin area in 1994 and she finished her college degree in Accounting at St. Cloud State University in 1996. She used this degree in the three businesses which they operated over the years. TEMCO was a welding and machine business and then in 1997 they started the Aitkin Rental Center. They had also been involved with the convenience store and gas station ???The Junction???. Terry and Vern had the opportunity to travel to places throughout the world, but appreciate the things at home the most. She is survived by her husband Vern Watters of Aitkin; parents: Earl and Lois Lungstrom of Rockford, Illinois; sons and daughters in law: Shane and Michelle Fitch of Belvidere, Illinois, Todd and Jennifer Watters of Walworth, Wisconsin, 2 daughters and sons in law: Amy and Billy Gardner, Kelly and Chad Simich of Cottage Grove, Mn.; 1 brother and sister in law: Russell and Sue Lungstrom of Rockford, Ill.; 1 sister and brother in law: Deborah and Gary Kilnefelter of Cherry Valley, Il.; 9 grandchildren: Jared, Sadie, Matthew, Jordan, Jacob W., Wyatt, Ethan, Emma, and Jacob F. He grew up and attended schools in Robbinsdale. He worked on a farm for a short time and then attended Brick Layers School. He was a brick layer for about 30 years. He worked jobs all throughout Minnesota. He married Sandra C. Miqueli on May 13, 200 in McGregor. He was a member of the McGregor Writers Club. He enjoyed photography, fishing, and was an artist and craftsman. He is survived by his wife Sandra of Tamarack; 1 daughter and son in law: Tracy Jo and Joe Antcil of Exeter, Rhode Island; Kyle and Colleen Klatke of St. Michael, Mn.; 2 sisters: Ruth Paske and Pat Olson and 1 brother Duane Klatke all of Minnesota. Donald H. Sather, age 52 of McGregor died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at his home after a courageous three year battle with ALS. Donald was born July 12, 1956 in Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Paul and Marilyn (Larson) Sather. He grew up and attended schools in McGregor graduating from the McGregor High School in 1974. He then started attended St. Cloud State University in 1978 and graduated from there with a degree in Computer Science in 1983. He returned to McGregor to help run the family business. He most recently ran the hardware store in McGregor. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the McGregor Lions Club, the Tamarack Sportsman???s Club, the Minnewawa Sportsman???s Club and the McGregor Chapter of the MDHA. He enjoyed cars and drag racing, snowmobiling, hunting and trap shooting. He is survived by his parents: Paul and Marilyn Sather of McGregor; sister and brother in law: Linda and Gary Van Slyke of Surprise, Arz.; brothers and sisters in law: Bob and Diane Sather of McGregor; Lee and Kim Sather of McGregor; Curt and Diane Sather of McGregor; nieces and nephews: Aaron Hansen, Greg Frazier-Hansen, Jeffrey Sather, Amy Sather, Becky Sather, Stacey Sather, Eric Sather, Rachel Sather, Addison Don Johnson, and also Christian Murphy.
