Terrence R. Anderson

Terrence R. Anderson, age 63 of Aitkin formerly of Crystal died Friday, February 19, 2010 at his home. Terrence was born November 15, 1946 at Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Alphons and Rosella (Cassady) Anderson. He moved with his family to the Twin Cities at the age of three where he grew up and attended schools. He also attended school at Montevideo, Mn. He graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1964. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Germany, and then as a drill instructor at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Upon his discharge he returned to the Twin Cities and worked for a time for Super Valu. He married LaVonne M. Lemire on January 4, 1969 at Crystal, Minnesota. They made their home and raised their family in Crystal. He worked as a security guard for the Northridge Nursing Facility. He also was a volunteer fireman for the Crystal Fire Department and had served as Deputy Fire Chief. He served with the department from 1971 to his retirement in 1996. He retired due to health issues in 2008 and in December 2008 moved to Aitkin. He was a member of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Assn., the Teamsters, and the Aitkin American Legion Post 86. He had started the Crystal Fire Explorer Post. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He also helped coach baseball and softball. He is survived by his wife LaVonne Anderson of Aitkin; 2 daughters and sons in law: Anna and Brent Jablonski of Rogers, Mn.; Jennie and Joe Elsenpeter of Buffalo, Mn.; 1 son and daughter in law: James and Cindy Anderson of Little Falls, Mn.; 9 grandchildren; 6 sisters and spouses: Cheri and Wayne Hempeck of Melrose, Mn.; Lonnie and Ron Olson of Blaine, Mn.; Lezlie and Ken Dadd of Anoka, Mn.; Tammy Anderson of Crystal, MN.; Susan and Jerry Johnson of St. Paul, MN.; Michelle and Tom Steffenhagen of Orlando, Fla.; 1 brother and sister in law: Jack and Stephanie Anderson of Glenwood, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Justin Fish officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and also 1 hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. Judith L. Prell, 67 of McGregor died Monday, August 08, 2011 at her home. She was born July 31, 1944 in McGregor to Arthur and Lucille (Moe) Rian. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1962. Judith was united in marriage to Douglas A. Prell in 1997 in Reno, NV. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and going to the casino. Judith loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Joan Ann Beauchem, 67 of Palisade died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin. She was born July 19, 1944 in Oregon, Illinois to John and Flossie (Jackson) Messenger. Joan was united in marriage to John Beauchem on June 2, 1963 in Illinois. She most recently worked at Kelly???s Kitchen in Palisade. She was previously employed as a CNA at Riverwood Extended Care, at the School House Caf?? in McGregor, and cleaned different bars and restaurants in the area. She liked to collect snowmen, lighthouses, and geese. She enjoyed watching the mini donkeys, dogs, and especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson Kyle, 2 brothers, 1 sister and her parents. Joan is survived by her husband John Beauchem, Sr. of Palisade 1 Son and daughter-in-law: John (Becky) Beauchem, Jr. of Breckenridge Two Daughters and son-in-law: Tammy Beauchem (Mark Moe) of Palisade Sandra (Chad) VanVickle of Palisade Grandchildren: Chuck, Amber, Derek, Shane, Cody, Angie, Mickayla, Isaac, Breanna, Courtney, and Jake Great- Grandchildren: Kylee, Sabree, Paxten, and one on the way due later in the year. Janet R. Wik, age 68 of Aitkin died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. Janet was born October 13, 1942 at Cook, Minnesota the daughter of Hagvert and Gennie (Johnson) Wik. Janet lived on a farm with her parents at Silverdale, MN. until the mid 1950???s. She then lived at Cambridge, Mn. and Brainerd, Mn. In 1972 she moved, with her friend Audrey, to the Von Reese home at Aitkin. Janet lived there until 1974 when she moved to the Joseph Skaj Home and she lived with Joseph and Martha Skaj for 16 years. She then moved to Carol Hansen???s Foster Home in 1990. She had resided there until moving to Aicota Health Care Center in 2009. Janet had worked at the Aitkin County DAC since 1972 and had participated in the Oakridge Homes programming. She is survived by family friend Clarice Anderson, foster mother Carol Hansen, personal guardian Shirley Scharer and all of her friends and co-workers at the Aitkin County DAC. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother. A memorial service for Janet will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Aicota Health Care Center with Rev. Curtis Randall Erickson, 71 of Palisade died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. He was born November 5, 1939 in Cokato to Vernon and Helmi (Mattila) Erickson. He was baptized at Dassel Mission Covenant Church and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church in Dassel. He graduated from Dassel High School in 1958. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran. He worked for his parents hatchery, Minnesota Poultry Service in Dassel. He attended BCA school and became a police officer for the communities of Pine Island, Maple Lake, Cokato, and Dassel. He then worked for 3-M Company in Hutchinson retiring after 27 years of employment. Curtis was united in marriage to Barbara (Anderson) on January 29, 1971 in Dassel. He loved sports, playing basketball for Cokato, Dassel and Kingston teams and also in the Marine Corps. He coached various youth and adult sports teams. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper, swimmer, bowler, and enjoyed playing cards and watching any and all sports on TV. Some of his greatest joys were his children and grandchildren and the accomplishments they achieved. He is survived by his wife Barbara Children: Lynn (John) Sowders of Springtown, TX. Nicole (Brian) Smith of Palisade Chantelle (Matt) Erickson of Colorado Springs, CO. Todd (Anne) Erickson of Columbus, OH. Allan Roy Wredberg, 73 of Palisade, died Monday, July 18, 2011 at Aitkin Health Services in Aitkin. He was born July 24, 1937 in Anoka to Alvin and Victoria (Carlson) Wredberg. He attended country school in St. Francis and graduated from St. Francis High School. He served in the National Guard and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Upon his discharge he returned to Anoka. He moved with his life partner Margaret Perry to Maple Grove and Montrose and settled in Aitkin in 2001. During his life he was a mechanic for United Van Bus and then purchased Prestige Sanitation and Country Wide Sanitation which served North West Minneapolis metro area. He sold Country Wide Sanitation to Randy???s Sanitation and continued to work there until his retirement. He is survived by his partner Margaret Perry of Palisade Daughter: Terri Lubrano of Largo, FL. 4 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Maria H. Lamke, age 76 of Palisade died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. She was born December 14, 1934 at Straubing, Germany the daughter of Josef and Franziska (Scheingraber) Dietl. She attended school in Straubing and during high school also attended a trade school and earned a degree as a seamstress and tailor. She married Dwaine W. Lamke on February 29, 1956 at Straubing, Germany. They lived in Germany, Arizona and Kentucky before moving to the Palisade area in 1974. Maria raised her family but also worked as a seamstress and tailor, a waitress and in later years a dietary aide at Aicota Health Care Center. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and had been on the Catholic Council of Women. She enjoyed baking, crafts, crocheting, gardening, sewing, and she loved her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Dwaine W. Lamke of Palisade; children and spouses: Kevin R. and Shelly Lamke of Aitkin; Linda E. and John Arness of Aitkin; Sandra R. Olson of Hill City, Mn.; Brenda V. and Allen Pundsack of Glencoe, Mn.; Rhonda A. Michael ''Gus'' Johns Michael ???Gus??? Johns, age 77 of Aitkin formerly of Chicago died Monday, March 28, 2011 at his home near Aitkin. Gus was born May 24, 1934 at Chicago, Illinois the son of Michael and Sophie (Athanas) Johns. He grew up and attended schools in Chicago and also attended Wright Junior College in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He was a Jazz musician and also worked as a bartender in Washington State before returning to Chicago in 1962. He worked as Manager of the Earl of Old Town, a historic night club, until 1983. He married Carol on February 20, 1987 in Chicago. They moved to Aitkin in 2002 and have lived here since. While in Chicago he also did some amateur acting. He loved playing the piano and following the Chicago Cubs Baseball team. He is survived by his wife Carol Johns of Aitkin; 4 children: Myrna Christian of Scottsdale, Arz.; Charla (Jeff) Dalman of Auburn, Wash.; Abigail Johns of Chicago, Ill., Zachary (Cathy) Johns of Skokie, Ill.; 3 grandchildren: Dalles (Leanna) Christian of Puyallup, Wash.; Morgan Christian of Puyallup, Wash.; Zachary Johns of Skokie, Ill and 2 great grandchildren: Alexander Christian and Benjamin Christian. Herbert D. Hakes, age 77 of Spirit Lake near Aitkin died of Parkinson???s disease and Lewy Body Dementia on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. He was born March 3, 1934 at Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Kenneth and Merry (Welton) Hakes. He moved with his family at a young age to Springfield, Minnesota where he grew up and attended schools graduating from the Springfield High School in 1952. He then went to college at Iowa State and graduated with a BS degree in Dairy Industry in 1956. He married Shirley V. Bahn on September 9, 1956 at Springfield, Minnesota. He went to work for the Carnation Company and they made their home in Cedar Falls, Iowa and their daughter Sue was born there. He then moved to Fairmont, Mn. and worked for the Nelson Ice Cream Company. While living in Fairmont their son Bob was born. The Kemps Company bought out the Nelson Ice Cream Co. and in 1965 Herb was transferred to Winona, Mn. where son John was born. Later in 1965 he transferred to Austin and worked there for Kemps from 1965 until 1990 when he was transferred to the Twin Cities, and they made their home in Plymouth, MN. In 1996 they retired to Spirit Lake near Aitkin. They had been coming to Spirit Lake since the early 1960???s. He had most recently been a resident at the Aicota Assisted Living Center. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Had served on church council, was a longtime choir member, had been active in the Jaycees, Elks, and Kiwanis Club. He had also been involved in Boy Scouts and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He is survived by daughter and son in law: Sue Hakes and John Gorski of Grand Marais; Sons and daughters in law: Bob and Gretchen Hakes of Minneapolis; John and Jennifer Hakes of Shoreview; 4 grandchildren: Meg, Chris, Ally, and Jake. He is also survived by 4 brothers and spouses: Kenneth (Shirley) Hakes of Aitkin; Richard (LeeVae) Hakes of Aitkin; William (Carla) Hakes of Aitkin; Jim (Barb) Hakes of Deerwood; and nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special friends Deb and Gary Clark of Aitkin. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2007, father Kenneth in 1991 and mother Merry in 2008. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11 AM from First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. Dorothy Sand officiating. Interment will be at the Diamond Lake Cemetery. Bryan J. Bailey, age 76 of Aitkin died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. Bryan was born August 10, 1933 in Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Clarence and Olga (Holm) Bailey. He attended the South Waukenabo School through the 8th grade and then went to the Aitkin High School graduating in 1952. He then served in the U.S. Army serving in Korea from 1953 to 1955. Upon his discharge he returned to the Aitkin area and then worked in Grand Rapids as an assistant manager for a gas station for a time. He married Christine C. Johnson on September 3, 1955 in Palisade, Mn. In 1957 they purchased a farm in the Waukenabo area and started dairy farming. In 1962 they purchased a farm in the Glory community and continued dairy farming. Bryan worked at the Aitkin Feed Store in the 1960???s and 1970???s. In the early 1990???s they retired from dairy farming. They had also operated a Christmas Tree Farm for many years. They moved to town in 2007. He was a regular attendee of the Glory Baptist Church. He loved traveling to Branson, Mo. and listening to country music. He was a member of the Aitkin American Legion Post, and had served on the Posts Color Guard. He had been involved with the Square Dance Club for 22 years. He also had 28 years of sobriety. He is survived by his wife Christine Bailey of Aitkin; Children and spouses: Lynda J. Root of Chetek, Wisc.; Kathy M. and Dale DeRosier of Trosky, Mn.; Carol J. Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Loren M.J. and Ginger Bailey of Alexandria, Mn.; 8 grandchildren: Jeremy, Craig, Darik, Nicholas, Grant, Erin, Samantha, Jasper; 2 great grandchildren: Emily and Kayla; 1 brother and sister in law: Noel and Alma Bailey of Aitkin. He farmed, logged, drove milk truck, and was involved with Goble Sewer Service. He was employed as a custodian and bus driver for Aitkin Schools for 21 years retiring in 1985. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, and traveling to Canada. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boxing, and baseball. Betty Jo Davies, 81 of Aitkin died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at her residence. She was born May 16, 1929 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Guy I. and Ann L. (Laird) Loomis. She graduated from Aitkin High School. Betty was united in marriage to Donald Davies on January 27, 1948 in Aitkin. She was a homemaker and farmer. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and quilting. Betty is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Gene (Kim) Davies of Aitkin Dale (Lori) Davies of Aitkin 2 daughters and son-in-law: Peggy Davies of Akeley Julie (Jeff) Hansen of Aitkin Seven Grandchildren: Ann, Eric, Cody, and Kaija Davies, Michael Hansen, and Kaitlyn and Nathan Davies Many other relatives and friends. Karin Ann Bailey, age 82 of Hill City died Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Karin was born December 18, 1928 at Milaca, Minnesota the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Nelson) Nelson. She grew up and attended schools at Swatara, Hopkins, and Hill City graduating from the Hill City High School in 1947. She then worked for the Munsingwear Company in Minneapolis. She married Rodman Bailey on June 28, 1946 in Hill City, Mn. They made their home in Swatara until 1990 when they moved to Hill City. She worked as a net maker; she did re-upholstery work for many years and also had worked at the Roadside Market in Hill City for a time. She was a member of the Hill City United Methodist Church where she was involved with Bible Studies and Quilting. She was a lifetime member in good standing with the DFL. She loved all crafts and was a perfectionist at all of them.Karin was a kind and giving person who accepted everyone just as they were. She is survived by children and spouses: Dale Bailey of Minneapolis; Cheryl DeWolfe of Forest Lake, MN.; Carla (Dale) Gillson of Hill City; James Herman (Gail) Bailey of Broomfield, Colorado; David (Cynthia) Bailey of Dayton, Mn.; Ruth (Kile) Bailey Holm of Byron, Mn.; Patty Bailey (Friend: Keith Moe) of McGregor, MN.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother: Ronald Nelson of Burbank, Calf.; and sister: Joan Kingsley of Aitkin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rodman, one brother and two infant sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11 AM from the Hill City United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Macville Cemetery at Swatara. Edward R. Kottke, age 84 of Aitkin passed asway peacefully in his sleep, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Edward was born January 4, 1927 at Ft. Mills, Corregidor, Philippine Islands the son of Edward and Catherine(Lange) Kottke. He grew up and attended school at Coupeville, Washington graduating from High School there. He then worked on a farm in North Dakota for a time.In 1950 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea where he received a Purple Heart. Upon his discharge he returned to North Dakota and married Evelyn Abrahamson on April 6, 1954 in Cando, North Dakota. They lived in Cando for a time and then moved to the Aitkin, Minnesota area. He worked for a time as a deputy sheriff. He operated a farm for many years and also did construction work in Aitkin and many of the surrounding communities. His wife Evelyn died in 1984. On December 27, 1986 he married Marilyn K. Pearson in Lakeland, MN. They made their home at the farm. He was a member of the Aitkin VFW, the DAV and attended Glory Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying. He loved his cows and his John Deere Tractor. He was a great dad, had a good sense of humor, and always wanted to make people laugh or at least put a smile on their faces. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Kottke of Aitkin; Children and spouses: Rick and Ardel Kottke of Roseburg, Oregon; Cynthia and Tim Hafvenstein of Cloquet, Russell and Sandra Kottke of Morrison, Colorado; Cheryl Kottke of Aitkin; Chad and Roma Kottke of Aitkin; 7 grandchildren: Stephen, Kara, Aaron, Jason, Amy, David and Christiann; 1 great granddaughter: Kaylin and 1 sister: Eva Ramsey of Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife Evelyn, and 1 brother: William and 3 sisters: Adah, Charlotte, and Catherine. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 1 PM at Glory Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Mason and Rev. Randy Stauter officiating. Burial will be in the Glory Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and also 1 hour prior to the service at the church Friday. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II. Ralph was united in marriage to Rita Losleben in December of 1954 in Minneapolis. Willard A. Westerlund, age 87 of Aitkin died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at his home in Glen. Willard was born on March 11, 1924 at Malmo, Minnesota the son of Carl ???Ed??? and Deloris (Messersmith) Westerlund. He attended the Lundquist School and then the Malmo School. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Upon his discharge he worked as a logger in Washington for 1 year and then worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska; the Seward Hiway, Whittier, Alaska and also worked 1 year in Greenland. He then returned to Minnesota where he operated a dragline for a time. He then logged and operated a sawmill. He married Loretta Gale Westling on July 2, 1956 in Anchorage, Alaska. He is survived by his wife Loretta Westerlund of Aitkin; sons and daughters in law: Jeffrey (Kim) Westerlund of Aitkin; Chad (Joy) Westerlund of Aitkin; Shawn (Lisa) Westerlund of Aitkin; daughter and son in law: Pamela (David) Hoover of McGregor; brothers: Arden (Arlene) Westerlund of Aitkin; Gaylord (Ruth) Westerlund of Aitkin; sister: Edna (Jim) Smith of Aitkin; 9 grandchildren: Cameron, Adam, Eric, Shanon, Chelaci, Aspen, Paige, Jake and Sidney. Eleanor Christiansen

Eleanor Christiansen, age 89 of Palisade died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at her home. Eleanor was born April 10, 1920 at Palisade, Minnesota the daughter of Guy and Lillian (Summers) Keath. She grew up and attended schools in the Palisade area and then attended the Aitkin High School and graduated from there in 1938. She married Arthur Christiansen on January 1, 1944 at Palisade. They lived in the Palisade area for most of their lives. Eleanor was the first female bus driver in Aitkin County in 1965 and she drove bus for 20 years before retiring. She had served as president of the Palisade Super Sledders and had been very active in snowmobiling for many years. She also enjoyed organizing the North and South Waukenabo School Christmas Pageants which she held in the basement of her home. She loved gardening and holiday decorating and won several awards for her Christmas decorations. Her children consider her and their dad the best parents anyone could have ever had. She is survived by 4 children and spouses: Richard Christiansen and Barb Yelle of Spicer, Mn.; Donald Christiansen and Elissa Bryan of Palisade; Dean and Su Christiansen of Ham Lake, Mn.; Julie and Ron Flint of Juneau, Alaska; 7 grandchildren: Darcy, Jeremy, Keath, Chelsea, Fletcher, Devin, Kady and Buddy the Dog; 6 great grandchildren: Layna, Imanuel, Fiona, Enya, Morgone, and Noah. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur in 2005 and 8 brothers and sisters. A celebration of Eleanor and Art???s life will be held this summer. Lee Nelson Bennett

Lee Nelson Bennett, age 92 of McGregor passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at his home. Lee was born September 26, 1918 at Brainerd, Minnesota the son of Lee Mott and Anna (Nelson) Bennett. He grew up in Pillager, Minnesota. Lee married Janice Mescher on May 15, 1944 at St. Paul, Minnesota. They made their home in the Minneapolis area where they raised their five children. After his military service, Lee was employed by Hotpoint Appliance Company and then Graybar Electric Company in Minneapolis. After that he co-founded the firm of Eggar, Bennett & Hondlik as a manufacturer???s representative. In 1971, Lee and Janice moved to Big Sandy Lake, where he retired in 1974. During WW II lee completed 27 combat missions as a B-17 Bomber pilot in the 8th Air Force in the European Theater. He was a former member of the American Legion in Richfield, First Lutheran Church in Pillager, and Holy Nativity Lutheran Church in Crystal. Lee loved life and lived it to the fullest. When he wasn???t hard at work, he was happily spending time with his family, snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, woodworking, restoring a 1928 Plymouth, going on family vacations, traveling all over the United States and the World. He also enjoyed the 15 winters he and Janice spent in Florida. Lee had a special gift for writing and was especially proud of his column in the Voyageur Press of McGregor. Area residents enjoyed ???LeeWords??? weekly from October 31, 2000 to April 4, 2006. Lee is survived by his wife Janice of McGregor; four daughters: Jeanne (Tom) Dwyer of Princeton; Kathryn (Richard) Beatty of Eagan; Donna Dowd of Burlington, Iowa; Barbara Burchill of Winona; one son: Lee M. (Darlene) Bennett of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister: Mary McGrew; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and Sister Betty Rice. A brief memorial service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2 PM at the McGregor Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private committal service will be held at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Holger V. Olson, age 96 of Glen died Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin. Holger was born January 29, 1915 at Stockholm, Minnesota. He grew up and attended schools in the Cokato area. He then operated a restaurant in Howard Lake for a time and then ran a grocery store in Minneapolis. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served during WW II. After his discharge he returned to Minnesota and went to work as a machinist for Rogers Hydraulic and had worked for them for 30 years. He retired to Aitkin in 1976 and then began on a 30 year career restoring antique furniture and making furniture. He was a member of the VFW and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and he and his wife Florence had travelled to Alaska, Japan and Scandinavia. They also wintered in Arizona. He is survived by his wife Florence Holger of Aitkin; son: Lee (Janet) Ross of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters: Karen (Frank) Ruzicka of Spring Hill, Florida; Teri (Tom) Johnston of Salt Lake City, Utah; 6 grandchildren: Jon, Lori, Amy, Jeremiah, Bridget and Kristin; and 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother: Stanley (Lorna) Olson of Little River, Calf.; Sister: Gladyce Bergman of Minneapolis and several nieces and nephews. Henry G. ''Heinie'' Janzen Henry G. ???Heinie??? Janzen, age 99 of Aitkin died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin. Henry was born January 17, 1911 at Cedarbrook, Minnesota the son of Herman and Mary Janzen. He grew up and attended country school in Cedarbrook and High School in Aitkin. After he high school he worked on the family Dairy Farm. He married Ann Franz on September 8, 1936 in Aitkin. He and his wife continued operating the Dairy Farm until 1968 at which time they sold the farm and moved into town.He lived in town for almost 30 years prior to moving into Maryhill Manor in the fall of 1997. He lived at Maryhill Manor for three years and then has resided at the Aicota Health Care Center for the past nine years. Henry always worked, even after he retired from farming he always found jobs. One of the ones he enjoyed most was working as the skating rink attendant for the local skating rink. He also worked at St. Thomas Cemetery. He was awarded the Lay Person of the Year Award a number of years ago. He was a lifetime member of St. James Catholic Church. He is survived by sons and spouses: Herman Janzen of Aitkin; Warren (Dianne) Janzen of St. Cloud, Mn.; Jerry (Mary) Janzen of Deephaven, Mn.; Greg (Karin) Janzen of Andover, Mn.; Tim Janzen of Bloomington, Mn.; daughters and spouse: Barb (Jerry) Sullivan of Aitkin; Mary Schrupp of Aitkin; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann in 1988, 2 brothers: Rudy and Barney, 6 sisters: Ann Schepers, Kate Paulsen, Helen Janzen, Mary Cummings, Margaret Gravelle, Elizabeth Cummings and 2 grandsons: Jon Janzen and Todd Sullivan. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday May 17, 2010 at 11 AM from St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin with Fr. Justin Fish officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 PM with a Rosary service at 6 PM at St. James Catholic Church and visitation will continue Monday from 10 AM until the 11 AM services at the church. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery in Aitkin. Memorials are preferred to the Jon Janzen Scholarship Fund at St. Johns University at Collegeville, Mn.
